Home Cost Kit publishes cost models for home improvement projects. The figures are orientation for checking a contractor’s quote. They are not a quote, not an offer, and not a substitute for a written estimate from a licensed contractor who has visited your property. Using the site means accepting that distinction. What the figures are
Each calculator builds a cost up from line items. Some inputs are published data with a source and a date; others are our own estimates, labelled as estimates and published with the band they could move within. We state on every line which is which, and the method page explains how the whole thing fits together.
Real projects vary for reasons no calculator can see: ground conditions, access, what a local inspector requires, what your contractor’s schedule looks like this month. A figure here being different from your quote is information worth asking about, not proof that either is wrong.
No warranty
The site is provided as is. We work hard on accuracy and we publish our sources precisely so that errors can be found, but we do not warrant that every figure is correct or current, and we are not liable for decisions taken on the basis of them. Building work is regulated locally and your permitting authority always has the final say.
Using our data
The datasets published on this site may be reused with attribution and a link. We ask one thing in return, and it matters: carry the labels. If a figure is marked as an estimate here, it is still an estimate wherever you quote it. Stripping that label turns our declared uncertainty into someone else’s apparent fact, and that is the specific harm this site exists to avoid.
